Ponte de Lima ((:ˈpõt(ɨ) ðɨ ˈlimɐ)), known for being the oldest village in Portugal, belongs to the district of Viana do Castelo in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 43,498,〔(Instituto Nacional de Estatística )〕 in an area of 320.25 km².〔(Direção-Geral do Território )〕 The town proper has about 2,800 inhabitants. It is named after the long medieval bridge that passes over the Limia river that runs next to the town. The present Mayor is Vítor Manuel Alves Mendes, elected by the Democratic Social Center.
